Eighties Child

SupergirlI was 7 when I first watched the 1984 classic Supergirl. She became a hero to many girls in what was a male dominated superhero genre. Supergirl was played by the very pretty Helen Slater. Girls loved he film due to the fact that she was a good role model..pus she looked so cool in all that lycra. Men liked her because she was top totty! The film has just been released at long last and it is here for your viewing pleasure!

SupergirleSuper girl’s main aim in life is to search for an orb of immense power that has travelled to Earth, and there instantly acquires super abilities. Standing in her way is an evil and powerful sorceress, who has captured the orb in order to supercharge her black magic. Selena who looks like a ginger Alanis Morissette having a bad hair day…has one mission and that is world domination!! (and seducing men!) She also has a nice collection of S and M Gear! Those swinging ball cages would go down a storm in Ann Summers!

product.jpgThis film has given many young girls an excuse to dress in lycra on their hen nights (the skirt is quite flattering on the old Azz) I have found a fab shop called Angels Fancy dress that sells this fab costume if you want to wear it out on the tiles. Or you can just buy it and lie across your Nan’s Stannah Stairlift and pretend you can fly! (Whatever floats your boat!) If you want to buy this amazing lycra extravaganza click here.

ladies_night-t-shirt.jpgI have also found a rather gorgeous T shirt on Truffle shuffle that stars supergirl and her homegirls!

My Little Pony…She lives in a stable and drinks Carling Black Label!!
Those were the good old days, when it was cool to play with small plastic horses!
I had a couple of ponies which I had personalised with a felt tip pen and a pair of scissors.

My little pony the movieI was pleased to see when I was browsing Argos, that they still make My Little Ponies!
It’s great that a whole new generation is still able to play with these very cute toys and they even make one that you can decorate (see I was a trendsetter!) One of the first movies that I ever went to the cinema to see was My Little Pony: The Movie.  This is a very good film to watch after a couple of drinks, Its like watching film Noir!

Princess Sparkle T shirtMy Little Pony is a product line of colorful toy ponies marketed primarily to young girls and produced by the toy manufacturer Hasbro. The toys were first introduced in 1982 and became immensely popular during the 80s, at one point even outselling Mattel’s Barbie!
Such is my love for the little plastic buggers thatI have a stunning t-shirt festooned with glitter declaring that I am a small girl trapped in the body of a 29yr old! The T-shirts are fab and can be bought here
And a T-Shirt is a whole less painfull than this:

All in oneThere have been some fashion resurgences recently that I have genuinely laughed my ass off about! Leggings for one! (I still wore them though!) And at first I was sceptical about the comeback of the all-in-one! I found this versatile wonder in Littlewoods Direct

Lemony BeautyIn 1987 at the grand old age of 9, I used to do Gymnastics and I begged my mum for weeks and weeks for a jumpsuit and eventually she conceded. We went to C&A and I proudly purchased a shocking pink jumpsuit, I used to wear my Gym Leotard under it and I wore this every saturday and all the girls gasped at my fantastic fashion sense (or they were gasping at the colour combo of shocking pink with ginger hair!)
My suit was very similar to this “Lemon Beauty”

I have found this rather cute version of this 80’s classic on Littlewoods Direct. Its simple and can definatley be jazzed up with some funky belts and beads!

Kirsty Doyle Madrid ribbon ShoesI found these shoes in my trusty littlewoods catalogue. They were so beautiful, they made me weep for the fact that I can no longer wear high heels (I may just buy them to look at and stroke occasionally)  You may look at these and say “fool they aint no 80’s shoes!” But I argue that they are!!!

You can purchase these baby’s here!

SiouxieGoth fashion started in the 1970’s as a direct result of rock and punk, Although these musicians were not purely Gothic, fans of Alice Cooper were largely responsible for introducing the Gothic outlook, with its black-leather clothing and silver earrings for males. In the years when Joy Division was becoming popular, a more cultivated version of Gothic was introduced in England by singer Suzie Sioux, “Siouxsie”. Sioux’s style was derived from punk, and was inspired by groups like the Sex Pistols. (although some might say she nicked her look from Theda Bara the 1920’s silent movie vamp) Theda BaraMany fans emulated her style, while the men had Robert Smith for inspiration (scores of men would be getting their birds to buy them red lippie from Boots!) The look was branded by many as Deathrock fashion.
Common Deathrock clothing items include black jeans, tight black or colored plaid bondage pants, short black or colored plaid bondage mini-skirts, black lycra mini-skirts, black or white lace skirts, etc.; black or white deathrock band or horror movie t-shirts, black, white or colored corsets, black or white dress shirts or polo shirts (both normally worn with a narrow tie), black or white camisoles, black or white lace tops; black, white or red fishnet tops (normally worn under other band t-shirts or corsets); black or white sport coats with band patches sewn onto the back; black denim, cotton, or leather waistcoats with band patches sewn onto the back; black leather motorcycle jackets with death rock album covers painted onto their backs; black or white tights, black and white striped tights; black fishnet stockings; and near-mandatory Dr. Martens boots.

I suggest that you pull on a black taffeta dress, some fishnets, serious eyeliner and these shoes, paint your room black and listen to Nag Nag Nag by Cabaret Voltaire

Hungry Hippos Before lots of teens suffered from repetitive texting finger injuries, there was the phenomenon of “hungryhippothumbfatigueitis” It was pretty serious in the 1980’s.

Hungry Hippo’s was a staple in any child’s games cupboard and it had minimal pieces to lose! (apart from the fact that I lost all the balls to mine so had to resort to marbles!)  Hungry Hippos, the classic marble munching game, is viewed by many so-called experts as ‘a board game for young children.’ I personally beg to differ, as those stuffy old encyclopedia writers obviously haven’t played this fast and furious game after a few cosmopolitans. If they had, they’d know that despite its obvious appeal to kiddies, Hungry Hippos is even more entertaining if you’re an overly refreshed adult. After all, how often do you get to hammer a hippo in order to make it munch as many marbles as possible? Exactly.

The game is not exactly rocket science, but it is oodles of noisy, riotous fun. How else do you think it became a best-selling classic? Any normal human will be giggling like a loon the minute they start playing. If you missed out the first time round, I demand that you immediately discover just how entertaining bashing the bejeesus out of a hungry hippo can be.  (You may not want to use it as an excuse for not coming down the pub, bashing your hippo is widely frowned upon in normal social circles!)

If you want to buy this fantastic game you can find it here, Hungry Hippos Game
