Pat Benatar’s Boots!

Pat Benatar is a certified rock’n'roll superstar, a four-time Grammy winner with six platinum and four gold albums to her credit as well as such hit singles as “I Need A Lover,” “Heartbreaker,” “Fire and Ice,” “Treat Me Right,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” “Hell Is For Children,” “Shadows of the Night,” and “Love Is A Battlefield.” Long acknowledged as one of the leading female rock vocalists in the industry.

I dont remember much about her because i was born in 1978 and her superstardom was mainly early eighties.
I do know though that her style legacy has spanned over 3 decades! her look which is made up of mainly primary colours, body concious fabrics and a lot of eyeliner still exists today.

I saw these amazing Pat Benetar Stylee Boots on Faith footwear.com and it immediately made me want to watch “love is a battlefield”. Do yourself a favour. Buy these boots, use a tie as a headscarf and dance yourself crazy! to this album

Katy Perry goes all 80’s

I dont know about you but I am loving the new Katy Perry video, Hot n Cold. The girl has great style and she looks like she is a lot of fun! The video has lots of lush outfits, but one in particular gave me a big 80’s smack on the face and woke me up! There is a scene in a club where she is wearing the most 80’s outfit ever….And I will not sleep until I have it!!!!!

Seeing that there is a fab bit of product placement for the sunglasses and you can clearly see the words diesel on the lens..then we can nab a bit of this great look for yourselves. I have found some very similar and the same make as Katy’s They are amazing 80’s Diesel sunglasses

The man is pretty hot too! I wonder if he comes with the outfit!

Saved by the Bell

This fantastic show Just about squeezes itself into the 80’s category. It ran from 1989-1993. Along with Blossom and the wonder years, This show kept me entertained for years and years. The only downfall was the character Screech! (awful annoying character)

The fact that the show often incorporated dramatic elements into episodes by dealing with “real teen social issues”, such as drug use, drinking and driving, homelessness, financial issues, divorce, first love and love lost, graduating, college, sibling rivalry, taking responsibilities for one’s actions, being bullied, death, and environmental issues made it an educational show for teens to watch.

Top of the Pops

The 30th of July 2006 was a sad day indeed. For this was the day Top of the Pops ended (TOTP for anyone who was brought up in the 80’s)

TOTP was a beacon of entertainment in the 80’s, a glimmering half hour when the olds just left you to watch the telly instead of making you watch the news or Corrie! Thursday nights were all about sitting in front of the telly and having your head filled with Choonage. It was a must-see. When there were no DVDs, no videos, no internet, there was almost no other way of seeing what a band looked like (apart from seeing them live).

In my heart I know that this amazing little programme no longer held the same relevance to teens as it did in the 80’s and 90’s. This is because the music landscape has changed and TOTP - like that aging rocker - now appears out of place. A singles chart show in an era where singles charts have lost their relevance. A 30-minute weekly showcase up against 24/7 music channels. Its sad but I suppose it had to go!

I found this fabulously 80’s TOTP T shirt on Truffle shuffle. Stick it on with some skinny jeans and pretend you are in the audience!

Denimtastic

Lets face it…denim was huge in the 80’s. Sno-wash was the denim of choice for many!
You were no one in the 80’s unless you had at least one pair of jeans. Tiffany drought the jacket/jeans/jumper combo into fashion (It was ruddy hot wearing all those layers)
Bros brought ripped jeans into style!

I let out a squeak of excitement when I discovered that the denim jacket was back in style. I remember my jacket in the 80’s having a Giant Michael Jackson patch on it and tons of button badges.
The style for the naughties is to team up the jacket with pretty layered dresses and cowgirl boots!

So pull on that denim jacket and stick on Tiffany’s Greatest hits And make like the little flame haired denim clad nymphet herself!

Tiger Babe!

If there was one thing that the Eighties chick loved..then it was animal prints. In the home, on your Bod…anywhere! I remember one friend who has a tiger print rug, tiger print wall hangings, zebra pillows! It was like bloody Bristol zoo!

I was reading in Grazia that Tigers were big this year! Intrigued by the concept of Tigers being fashionable this year, I decided to seek out some Tiger merchandise. I found this rather beautiful and suprisingly wearable dress on the littlewoods site. Its bang on the 80’s trend with a fabulously shiny belt (which nicely ties in the lacquered trend that is around at the moment)

Stick on a pair of Leggings and black school pumps and make your way to Ritzy’s!

Crimpers

One of the main hairstyles of the 80’s is the good old crimped side ponytail. The modern crimping iron was specifically invented in 1972 by Geri Cusensa, the original founder of Sebastian, for Barbara Streisand’s hair. The newly created “crimped hair” look was considered very hot and copied by many people. The crimped look got a lot of attention and the newly invented crimping irons took their places on the shelves of major retail outlets right next to the curling irons. Besides Barbara, many celebrities adopted the crimped look at various times over the past several years. Jody Foster was a big fan of crimping in 1987. Because Jody has a tiny, oval shaped face with thin hair, crimping was a great look for her. Alyssa Milano was also a fan of crimping in 1987 when she was at the tender age of 14. Alyssa reportedly enjoyed the “steamy crimped hair look”. Crimping is very versatile. You can crimp everything from your entire hairstyle to just selected parts of your hair. Crimping can be used on your fringe, (a-la Cindy Lauper) on just the top layer of the overall hair or at selected ends.

Girls World Styling Head

At the grand old age of 7 I was given a Girls World Styling head for my Birthday. This toy provided me with countless hours of make-over fun. This poor doll was drawn on with Crayola Crayons, she had her hair hacked, she had what was left of her once beautiful hair covered with food colouring and felt tip pen…My little brother even gave her a Play-Doh wart!

The Girls world head was truly the most versatile and inspiring toy that a girl could own! I thought that these toys would be long gone, but after having a snoop on Argos I have found that they still make them….so go on buy one for your Child / Niece. Or boyfriends and Husbands can avoid having their hair plaited by purchasing one of these for their partner / Wife.

Labyrinth

I remember being quite scared of David Bowie’s Nether regions the first time I saw the Labyrinth. It was quite traumatic as a seven year old to see that!! Other than old Dave’s dodgy mullet and Codpiece, this film is a work of genius!!! The film can be bought on Amazon.co.uk. Also available is The Labyrinth Soundtrack and the Poster.

Sarah is the lead character in this fantastic film. (Played by Jennifer Connolly who is now a serious ac-tor!) She plays a young gir, her life is fuelled by fantasy and roleplay…She is tired of her young step brothers whinings she secretly wishes for the goblin king to take her brother (cue David Bowie in a very scary wig!) The film revolves around sarah searching through the Labyrinth and meeting may colourful characters along the way. She firstly Meets Huggle who is a revolting little goblin who likes to wee in ornamental ponds! She is also aided by Ludo who is a large beast, desprately in need of a jar of Veet!

The coolest little character is a feisty Yorkshire terrier called Sir Didymus, who is very faithful to his post as the bridge keeper in the pit of eternal stench. He hepls sarah a great deal. The Little worm is the cutest character in the film, this worm confuses sarah by sending her in the wrong direction and famously saying “If she had gone that way she would have gone straight to that castle!!” (In a cockney Accent!!!) One of my favourite bits is the Red Fire monsters that look like fraggles, They try and take off her head and do a lot of scary dancing with crotch wobbling! The Music in this film is beyond genius. David Bowie’s songs are all fantastic including the one where he chucks a baby around!

Dr Martens

The shoe of the decade had to be Dr Martens in the 80’s. Universally loved by men and women, this shoe company will always be cool an they are also supremely comfortable! (I still have mine from the age of 13 and they are moulded to the shape of my feet) DM’s as they are fondly known come in pretty much all colours of the rainbow. They still sell the Classic 3 hole shoes and they are looking at a bit of a comeback if supermodel Agyness Deyn has anything to do with it! She has been seen working the Duckie from Pretty in Pink look! Click here to get your filthy mitts on these Dr. Martens!

By the late 1970s, Dr. Martens boots were popular among some British punk rock and New Wave musicians, and soon many punk fans were wearing them. The boots and shoes then became much more popular among some parts of youth subculture. Dr. Martens have been the subject of a song by Alexei Sayle (featuring on The Young Ones episode “Oil” with the band “Radical Posture”) and have appeared on the cover art for a Madness box set The Business. In the late 80’s it was fashionable to wear the shoe version with turned up trousers and slouch socks. Bros even adorned theirs with bottle tops.

The late 1970s and 1980s saw the boot adopted by – not thrust upon – nearly all the ‘tribes’: Mods, glam, punks, ska, psychobillies, grebos, Goths, industrialists, nu-metal, hardcore, straight-edge, grunge, Britpop …Then with the birth of the net ……There were no tribes anymore. At least, “not like they used to make ’em.”. You don’t see one tribe fighting another anymore, a haircut does not define a person to four albums by three bands. Does this mean the end of the DM?

I say no!!
